The StandardX Melbourne ∙ Discover the Perfect City Stay Down Under

Designed to check in and then check out the city, The StandardX Melbourne is Fitzroy’s answer to a chic neighbourhood hotel hangout.

The Hotel

With Melbourne known as Australia's cultural and culinary hub, it’s a must when exploring the East coast. As is the little arty pocket of Fitzroy, the city's cool quarter that’s graffitied, gentrified and glorious. Spilling with music venues, experimental street art, nomadic cafés and fashion.

It is here you can pass through the iconic red door of The StandardX. The boutique city address that opened with a bang in 2024 and since then has welcomed guests on repeat. Much like the art covered streets outside, the hotel's interiors have been led by Melbourne-based interior design firm Hecker Guthrie. A large terrazzo-floored lobby that resembles an airy elevated loft is decorated with a statement fireplace and columns wrapped in macrame by local artist Sarah Smalltown. Paintings from Dane Lovett brighten the walls and custom furniture and antique pieces allow for a comfy check in. This is the place to book if you want to tap into the neighbourhood's eclectic culture, yet keep the party going when you return to your room.

Where To Stay

The StandardX Melbourne is the perfect city stay where you can drop your bag and roam. All in the knowledge that you are coming back to the modern comforts guests know and love. With 125 rooms all snug in size and minimalist in design, the spaces range from the intimate ‘Cozy Standard King’ all the way up to the charming ‘Suite Spot’ that offers unobstructed city views. Plus a separate lounge area with a built-in bar and a powder room for your guests, if you are ‘bringing the party back to yours’.

The luxury is in the small details as each room offers a mini bar station filled with welcome treats, a SMEG kettle and Frank Green French Press. While towelling bathrobe hoodies and matching slippers wait to be slipped into post-shower after using rich custom Davines bathroom amenities to wash off the city smoke. Don't forget the friendly front desk who are on hand if you need to call down for a spare toothbrush, firmer pillow or extra blanket. Plus the room service team who are ready to deliver hot grilled cheese toasties to you when late night snacking strikes.

Where To Eat

You know any Standard Hotel is going to come with a cool food scene to match and Melbourne is no different. Welcome Bistro X, the hotel's ground floor modern bistro known as the all-day hangout for coffee lovers, wine drinkers and all-round foodies. Set against a striking red brick bar, here executive chef Ben John champions hyper-seasonal produce to create familiar favourite dishes- comfort food with a French fair.

Breakfast is a light lazy affair as Fitzroy's flat white-sipping, laptop-working locals stop in to join hotel guests, giving it that warm neighbourhood feel. Everything from homemade granola with creamy coconut yoghurt and yarra berries to chilli scrambled eggs on sourdough are ready to order. If you are a fan of the ‘big Aussie breakfast’ a must try is the ‘Brekkie Sanga’, where glazed bacon, perfectly fried eggs and avocado are stacked up into a milk bun. This plus a pot of steamy black coffee is the perfect plate to set you up for a full day of city exploring.

Come nightfall, Bistro X transforms into low lit tables laden with saucy sharing plates and liquored night caps. Take advantage of the fresh rock oysters, crunchy potato rosti’s, rich wagyu burgers and snapper fish bites, all served with tasty garnishes and dressings.

What To Explore

A standout at The StandardX has to be ‘OnTop’, the hotel's stylish rooftop bar with panoramic skyline views of grungy Fitzroy and high-rise Melbourne. With exclusive hours for hotel guests only, you’ll have space to unwind and soak up the sun and social energy. The bohemian-style decor with rusty fringed umbrellas, wicker chairs and potted olive trees makes it feel like a little hideaway oasis. While wines, ales, yuzu margaritas and pink gin spritz are flowing on tap and charcuterie plates, mushroom skewers, prawn rolls and thick cut fries can be snacked away on. Make sure to book in from Thursday through the weekend as live DJ sets from a rotating line up of local Melbourne artists will be your sundowner soundtrack.

When heading out to wander the streets, stop by the front desk and pick up their ‘Fave’s List’ which will become your little black book for exploring Fitzroy. Wine bars, Asian, Italian and Mexican restaurants, bakeries, book shops, jazz cafes, vintage shops and galleries galore. Heading further into Melbourne? Make sure to take the trams running down the very-cool Brunswick Street, rummage around the Rose Street Market (filled with indie designers) and picnic in the city's stunning botanical gardens.

For the active types, The StandardX has partnered with a local gym just a 10 minute walk away and has 24/7 access with a free swipe card available from hotel reception. With plenty of treadmills, rowers, airdyne bikes, dumbbells and cable machines for all your cardio and strength training needs. Before heading back to the hotel for your post-workout refuel.

The PIBE Approved Extra’s

The little extra that gives The StandardX that city living feel is ‘The Box’. Found tucked away in the lobby, this is a well-stocked neighborhood bodega. A smart retail concept that includes wines, meats, cheeses, ice creams and crisps that can be enjoyed on-the-go or in your room. As well as fashionable goods from bath soaks, cool crockery, niche fragrances, arty coffee table books and Melbourne merch- so you can take home something a little special.
